Client Already Exists - Xero

When you try to add a client and get the error that says "The contact name (Client Name) is already assigned to another contact. The contact name must be unique across all active contacts." this means that a client in Xero already exists with that name. You will then need to sync the client from Xero into SmartPractice and then enable them for the necessary services.


  1. The following error will occur when trying to add a client that already exists within Xero



  1. Go to the search bar and type "Xero Synchronisation"



  1. Click on Search



  1. Click on the Xero Synchronisation icon



  1. Search for the client name



  1. Click on Sync Contacts



  1. The client will then be synched from Xero to SmartPractice



  1. Go to the search bar and type "Client Enable"



  1. Click on Search



  1. Click on the Client Enable / Remove Icon



  1. Search for the client



  1. Click on Show Results



  1. Click on Not Enabled



  1. Update the necessary details and Services



  1. Click on Save and Update Client info



  1. Update the Client Info as needed



  1. Click on Save Details
